Kick It Like A Girl

The MYSA is always looking for ways to improve and expand our offerings to our players so they can get the most out of playing soccer. Part of this effort is trying to expand our development opportunities for our younger girls to help them better compete in our coed Recreation and all girls Travel programs. The MYSA is happy to announce it’s new and improved ‘Kick It Like A Girl’ program!

This program is open to all MYSA girls currently playing or planning to play on U8 & U10 Recreational teams. The goal of the program is to give the girls a chance to play soccer with other girls their age AND participate in fun sessions run by some of our most experienced coaches. We hope to get as many girls as possible to come out and play soccer together over the course of the next six months. It’s that simple.

Sessions will be held semi-regularly from now through the end of the Spring 2010 season on Sunday afternoons at 1:30PM at the Mebane Soccer Complex. The program is free and players do not have to attend every session – just come when you can. Each session will last 90 minutes and will consist of warmups, a short development activity, and then 30-45 minutes of scrimmaging. Players will receive a set of T-Shirts (blue and yellow) which they should bring to each session that will be worn during the games (we’ll be ordering them incrementally so it may take a few weeks to get them after you first attend). A number of different coaches will plan specific sessions, with additional coaches assisting during the activities and scrimmages. Some of the coaches slated to plan and oversee sessions include:

  • Billy St Pierre – MYSA Director of Coaching.
    • Holds USSF National Youth License and USYSA ‘E’ License. Coach of U10 Boys and U17 Girls Travel Teams
  • Andy Thompson – MYSA Asst Director of Coaching.
    • Holds NSCAA Advanced National Diploma. MYSA Travel Team Trainer.
  • Mike Baptiste – MYSA President.
    • Holds USSF National Youth License and USSF National ‘D’ License. Coach of U13 Girls Travel Team.
  • Chip Foushee – MYSA Board Member and Vice President
    • Holds USYSA ‘E’ License. Coach of U10 Girls and U13 Boys Travel Teams.
  • Alan Huffman – MYSA Board Member and Director of Recreation.
    • Holds USYSA Youth II Certification. Coach of U8 Rockets.
  • Duane Hampton – MYSA U6 Coordinator
    • Coach of U8 Bandits and U6 Razors

All sessions will start at 1:30PM, though a few may change depending on the coach and weekend. We also are likely to cancel sessions if the forecast is for extremely cold or foul weather. Again – this isn’t something you have to attend every week and you can start to participate any time. While you do NOT have to RSVP or sign up (you can just show up to any session), if you expect your daughter will be attend, send us the following information (email [email protected]):

  • Name
  • Age
  • Birthdate
  • T-Shirt Size (Specify a size big enough so the shirt can fit over jackets/sweatshirts and account for shrinking)
  • 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choice of a uniform number

We hope you can join us for this exciting program!
