Rules of the Game
All MYSA Youth Soccer matches are governed by the ‘Rules of the Game’ as laid out by the division a match is played in. All matches are governed by the FIFA Laws of the Game with the following modifications:
Recreation
MYSA Recreation matches are played under modified rules, starting with the USYSA Small Sided Rules. The following MYSA modifications are also in effect for the following age groups:
- League Rules – Apply to ALL Age Groups
- Division Rules: U5 | U6 | U7 | U8 | U10 | U12 | U14 | U18
- General Tournament Rules
- Teams playing in group-style tournaments receive 3 points for a win, (4 points for a shutout win), 1 point for a draw, and 0 points for a loss. Games may end in a draw in the group stage. Semifinal and final games which are tied at the end of regulation will determine a winner using penalty kicks (see division specific rules above for more details on deciding games by penalty kicks). If teams are tied on points at the end of group play, then the tie is broken using the methods listed in the “Records” section of our League Rules
- Games in double elimination-style tournaments cannot end in a draw; a winner must be determined by penalty kicks if anygame is tied at the end of regulation (see division specific rules above for more details on deciding games by penalty kicks).
Select
Select teams also play under the USYSA Small Sided Rules with a few NCCL Modifications.
Classic
Classic teams play under USYSA Small Sided Rules for U11 and U12 and all Classic Matches/Teams are subject to the rules and guidelines laid out in the NCYSA Classic Handbook.
