MYSA Fall 2010 Recreation Tournament
For those of you used to single elimination style tournaments, you’ll find we no longer use that bracket style. Most soccer tournaments are NOT single elimination. Instead they consist of a ‘group’ stage where teams play 2-3 matches and then the results of that stage are used to determine who advances to the ‘knockout round’ (Semifinals, finals, etc) which are single elimination. In other cases we may use a ‘loser bracket’ format where a team can lose one match and still win their way back into the championship. The final style is a ’round-robin’ format where teams win their tournament based on points earned playing each opponent. We choose the bracket type based on the number of teams in a given bracket. This ensures teams get a minimum number of games in. The upside of this is that a single loss will not necessarily eliminate you from contention, it reduces the number of shootouts, and ensures all teams (except those who have to ‘playin’) will get a minimum of two tournament matches.
There will not be a U7 Festival this season!
