MYSA U12 Dynamo Win the Seaside Classic

tagbo | June 5, 2013

The U12 Mebane Youth Soccer Association (MYSA) Dynamo went to the Seaside Classic on a mission. Runners up last spring, they had loftier goals in mind this spring. The weekend of May 17-19, the Dynamo played four games and won four games. On Saturday they beat the Triangle Futbol Club Aztecs 8-1 and followed that with a 7-0 win over the Cape Fear Soccer Club Braves. Sunday opened with a battle versus a Huntersville Claymore team that was much tougher than the final score, a 5-0 win. With a 3-0 record, the Dynamo qualified for the final with the equally 3-0 Piedmont Soccer Alliance Stars Red team. In the end, the Dynamo prevailed in a classic 3-2 win that included two 5 minute extra times.

What makes the Dynamo special is the team effort. Every player played a role and every player had at least one goal or one assist. One of their true leaders is the goalie Macon Lawrence. Macon gave up three goals total over four games, stopping two penalty kicks along the way. Macon is great, but it cannot be overstated how strongly his defensive mates supported him in the backfield with timely defensive stops and an uncanny ability to start the offense from the back end, often driving forward to provide scoring opportunities for their teammates as well as goals themselves. The defensive stalwarts are Cameron Michalski, Isaiah Locklear and Jayden Velez. It was a group of eight players that provided the spark in the offensive end, as well as timely defensive stops in the front end leading to some easy goals. Leading the way were Jalen Dikes, Alex Kreider, Luke Hawks, Jon Buck, Nate Lliteras, Alex Burke, Ewan McCallum and RJ Pherribo.

Specifics to each game aside, this is a special group that has been trained and built over a five year period. Though still developing the technical aspects of the game, their athleticism, endurance, and heart are unmatched. They are just 12 years old, so they are not perfect.

However, they do their best make the most out of every opportunity and live by their motto of “Be Great . . . Today!!”

MYSA U11/U12 Travel Players Finalists in Winter Indoor League

tagbo | February 8, 2013

A team of Mebane Youth Soccer Association (MYSA) travel players reached the finals of the recently concluded Winter Indoor League in Burlington NC, defeating teams from Durham and Burlington. The team was composed of girls from the current MYSA U11 and U12 Classic teams who took on the team name, Mebane United. For their opening game, in spite of not having played as a team before, they acquitted themselves well and lost a close game to the eventual champions.

Regrouping after that bitter loss, Mebane United reeled off a series of 5 regular season wins, including a win against the team that defeated them in the opening game. Mebane United then faced down Durham City Futbol Club in the semi-final, defeating the Durham club 7 to 2. That win propelled them to the finals, where they lost a hard fought battle to the champions.

Comets and Dynamo show MYSA Strength

tagbo | January 25, 2013

The Mebane Youth Soccer Association (MYSA) U12 Boys Comets and Dynamo had exceptional NC Youth Soccer (NCYSA) 2nd Division Classic Fall 2012 Seasons.  The Comets and Dynamo finished first and second respectively in a very competitive division with teams from Knightdale, Chapel Hill, Johnston County, Fuquay-Varina, and Roanoke Rapids.

The Comets ran away with first place finishing 11-0-1 with 34 points.  They scored 53 goals and only gave up 18.  The Dynamo finished 7-2-3 with 24 points, scoring 47 goals, but giving up 23.  In their lone head to head match up on a very cold early November night, the Comets prevailed 3-2.

The Comets and Dynamo also did well in tournaments.  Both teams attended the Burlington Soccer Club Shootout over the Columbus Day weekend.  The Comets won their group while the Dynamo finished second in theirs.  The teams combined forces to show well at three other tournaments, winning the Triangle United Soccer Classic at Chapel Hill in August and showing well at events put on by Greensboro United Soccer in August and the Capitol Area Soccer League in November.

Stand out players for the Comets include: Macoy Wood, Luke Burnette, Ozvaldo Lopez, Jordi Trejo, Julio Garcia-Lopez, Jay Castillo, Macon Pickard, Kevin Rios, Elliott Hester, and Jack Morgans.

Stand out players for the Dynamo include: Cameron Michalski, Jayden Velez, Macon Lawrence, Nate Lliteras, Alex Burke, Luke Hawks, Jalen Dikes, Alex Kreider, Isaiah Locklear, Ewan McCallum, Jon Buck, and RJ Pherribo.

The NCYSA Classic brackets have been shuffled, but the Comets and the Dynamo find themselves once again together and in a very competitive group.  The future bodes well for both teams who plan to combine forces in tournaments this spring and eventually form one or possibly two very good U13 teams next fall.  Look for more news on these teams in the coming months.

MYSA Sees Success At Seaside!

League Wizard | May 21, 2012

Eight Mebane Youth Soccer Association teams traveled to Wilmington, NC this past weekend to participate in the 19th Annual Seaside Soccer Classic, which has become a fun season ending event for travel teams across North Carolina and neighboring states. With almost 300 teams participating this year, the event was an action packed and exciting event for all. Soccer and the beach! Of the eight MYSA teams playing in Wilmington, four of them made it to the championship matches for their divisions! Seeing half of our attending teams representing Mebane in the championship round was exciting, as many coaches and parents from other teams traveled across Wilmington Sunday afternoon to cheer on the MYSA teams. We also wanted to give the 02 Force G a special shout out as this U9 girls team competed against U10 teams and made it to the championship round. Well done!

This was a fitting end to one of our most successful travel seasons to date. Congratulations to all the teams and players for their efforts on the pitch!

Some End of Season Updates

League Wizard | November 6, 2011

Parents/Coaches,

As the season winds down, I wanted to share a few things with you:

  1. Please remember that your child’s uniform is ON LOAN. All uniforms (Jersey’s and shorts. NOT socks) must be turned in to your team manager at the end of the season, even if you plan on playing in the Spring. This ensures we have uniforms for everyone next season. If you have lost all or part of your uniform or it is damaged beyond normal wear and tear, you will be responsible for purchasing a replacement ($30 for the complete kit or $20 for the jersey and $10 for the shorts) Thank you for your help in ensuring all of our teams are properly outfitted each season.
  2. Managers – if you KNOW you’ll return next season – simply email the uniform coordinator ([email protected]) when you have all uniforms on hand or list any that you could not get back. If you are unsure if you or your coach will return in the spring, then arrange to turn your uniforms in to the coordinator before December.
  3. The Rec Tournament is coming up! Given the formats we use, don’t assume you are eliminated – ALWAYS check the schedule, which is updated every morning. You don’t want to forfeit when you still have a chance to advance.
  4. Once the Rec Tournament is over, the Mebane Soccer Complex will be CLOSED to allow the winter grass to strengthen.
  5. If you find your team near the bottom of the standings or it feels like you rarely won – it’s important to stay focused on what REALLY matters. Did your child improve as a player and did they have fun? Most kids forget about losses or the score faster than you’d think. So remember that it’s natural to be disappointed after a loss or a tough season, but your kids follow your lead and if they see you dejected or upset after a loss, they’ll think they did something wrong and stress about it. Highlight the good things they and their team did and encourage them to try harder next time. This is especially true during the tournament – the pressure is a little higher, emotions stronger, and healthy competition is a good thing as long as everyone keeps perspective. At the end of the day it’s a game and who wins/loses is quickly forgotten by those that matter most – the kids.
  6. A number of our travel teams, especially at the younger ages, are looking for some additional players. Our travel program is similar to Recreation in that teams practice twice a week, play 1 (or occasionally 2) matches per weekend, and you ‘travel’ at most 4-5 times during the regular season (often to Burlington, Chapel Hill, Raleigh, or Greensboro) The biggest difference is players get professional skills training once a week and they get to play teams from outside of Mebane. Supplemental tryouts will be held Sunday November 13th!!! Players do NOT have to be super stars, especially at the younger ages, just excited to play soccer and wanting to get better. Complete details can be found at: http://mebanesoccer.us/2011/11/mysa-travel-team-supplemental-tryouts/
  7. Registration for the Spring Rec season will begin on or around November 15th. We’re trying to reduce/eliminate late registrations, so please don’t forget and wait until mid-January. In addition to triggering a late fee, it makes our job harder trying to plan for how many coaches we’ll need and balancing out the teams.
  8. Coaches/Managers – PLEASE make sure all your matches are properly scored! We use the standings to seed the tournament brackets, so please check that ALL your completed matches have scores.
  9. The tournament schedules and rules can be found at http://mebanesoccer.us/current_season/fall-tourny/ Given the formats we use, it’s IMPOSSIBLE to take scheduling requests into account, so please make every effort this one week to adjust and accommodate the matches as when you play often depends on previous results. We’ll plug in teams into the brackets as the standings finalize.
  10. Don’t lose sight of why we do all this every Fall and Spring – for the kids to learn soccer and have fun. Keep that in mind during those close matches during the tournament – stay positive, let the coaches coach, and the referees officiate. Nobody is perfect, mistakes will be made, and life will go on. We’re all doing our best to ensure the KIDS enjoy themselves. See you on the fields!

MYSA Teams Warm Up At Chilly GUFC Friendlies

League Wizard | February 18, 2011

To help prepare for the upcoming season, nine of the MYSA’s travel teams traveled to Greensboro to participate in the Guilford United/Omega Sports Spring Kickoff Feb 5th and 6th. We were excited to send such a large contingent of our teams to play against teams from GUFC, TCYSA, GYS, GUFC, CUFC, and more. When a significant rain storm rolled through the area Thursday and Friday, it looked like the event would be canceled due to soggy field conditions, but GUFC worked through the day and night to obtain indoor/artificial turf field space and realign the schedules so all teams could play their games.

Fall 2010 Rec Tournament Champions

League Wizard | February 6, 2011

The Fall 2010 Recreation Tournament was our league’s largest Rec tournament so far, with six divisions. It also represented our league’s goal of moving away from single elimination brackets to more exciting group play or double elimination formats. This ensured each team would play at least two matches in the tournament and have plenty of chances to show off all they had learned during the season. Coaches – if you have team pictures of your championship or finalist team (or blurbs about your experience), please send them in so we can add them! Send them to us at [email protected].

92 MYSA Inferno Burning Through Preseason

League Wizard | February 2, 2011

The 92 MYSA Inferno got an early start to their Spring 2011 season, participating in two preseason tournaments. Their first event in late November took them to Mooresville, NC to participate in the Lake Norman Classic where they won the U18 Boys division. After the holiday break and January winter weather, they traveled even farther west to Knoxville, TN for the Southeast College Showcase. Participating in the U18/U19 Boys Division, they went undefeated (3-0-0), beating teams from Tennessee and Ohio, to win their division. The Inferno hope to build on this early success as they prepare for their upcoming season and the Colonial Virginia Soccer Shootout in March. Congratulations to the 92 MYSA Inferno!

94 MYSA Storm Building Strength

League Wizard | February 2, 2011

94 MYSA Storm

The 94 MYSA Storm, Mebane’s first Division 1 Classic Team, has had a strong start in their preseason as they prepare for their Spring 2011 season. The Storm traveled to Raleigh to participate in the CASL Boys College Showcase in late November. The Storm topped all three opponents with an overall goal differential of +6. After the holiday break, the Storm traveled to Fayetteville for the TFC Friendlies. Facing off against a flight of very strong teams, the Storm finished 2-1-0 with every match a one point affair including a victory over a Premier level team. C. Staton was also selected to participate in the TFC Friendly All Star Game. This pre-season bodes well for the Storm as they begin their quest this season to earn promotion into the NC Premier division.

Three Storm players, L. Barker, K. Knodel, and D. Crowe, also earned spots on NC ODP tournament teams.

00 Hurricanes G Storm Through The Fall

League Wizard | February 1, 2011

The 00 MYSA Hurricanes G, Mebane’s U10 Girls travel team coached by Rod Snyder, put together a very successful season in the Triad Challenge league this Fall. Playing against teams from across the Piedmont Triad, the Hurricanes compiled a 7-1-0 record finishing in 2nd Place in the TCL U10 Girls Division. To wrap up the season, the Hurricanes headed to Greensboro on an unusually warm November weekend to participate in the Greensboro Challenge Clash. Held at beautiful Bryan Park, the Hurricanes blew through the competition with a 4-0 record to win the U10 Girls Division. The final was very exciting with the Hurricanes emerging with a 3-2 victory while many MYSA parents from other teams cheered them on. Great job ladies!
