MYSA and BSC Unite to Kick Hunger In The Can!!!!

tagbo | April 7, 2013

Hunger is a real problem in Alamance County.  Every day, families and individuals in our community struggle to put food on their table.  Three local soccer organizations are now coming together to do something about it.  The Mebane Youth Soccer Association (MYSA), the Burlington Soccer Club (BSC) and the Burlington Recreation Department are organizing a “Kick Hunger in the Can” food drive in support of Loaves and Fishes Christian Food Ministries. BSC and MYSA will be collecting non-perishable food and consumer products during all recreational and travel soccer matches held the weekend of April 12-14.

Parents, players, and spectators are encouraged to bring one item per person to donate. Collection bins will be available at the Mebane Soccer Complex concession stand for MYSA matches and Springwood concession stand for BSC/Burlington matches.  “This is a great cause that we are excited to support.  A special thanks to all involved with MYSA, BSC, and Burlington Recreation for making this happen,” said BSC Executive Director Taylor Saxe.  “We are happy to come together with BSC and Burlington Recreation to help support Loaves and Fishes in their mission to fight hunger in Alamance County,” said MYSA president Alan Huffman.

According to Loaves and Fishes, the items that are most in need include:   Canned goods with meat (ex. Vienna sausages, ravioli etc.) and canned fruit

For more information on Loaves and Fishes, please visit their website at http://www.loavesandfishes.us/

Come out the weekend of April 12-14, enjoy some great soccer, and help BSC and MYSA “Kick Hunger in the Can”!

A Successful Spring for MYSA Travel Teams

League Wizard | May 12, 2011

The MYSA fielded a record 16 travel teams this Spring, which gave over 200 Mebane area players the chance to further develop their soccer skills against teams from across North Carolina and train with experienced MYSA coaches as well as trainers from Premier UK Soccer Academy.

In our Select Program, four teams of Under-9 players participated in the NC Champions League against teams from Raleigh, Cary, and Chapel Hill. It was the first year these players had played on all girls or boys teams and against teams from outside of Mebane. In addition to facing some excellent opponents, the teams got to experience playing at different complexes across the Triangle area including a new artificial turf field at the WRAL Soccer Complex in Raleigh. With no standings kept at this level, success is measured purely in how much the players improved and by the end of the season these teams were doing great things!

Seven of our travel teams participated in the Triad Area Challenge League against teams from the Greensboro and Winston-Salem area. A number of these teams wrapped up very successful seasons. The 00 MYSA Dynamo finished in 2nd Place in the U10 Boys Blue division with a 6-2-0 record and a +11 Goal Differential. The 00 MYSA Hurricanes G finished tied for 1st Place in the U10 Girls division with a 5-1-0 record and a +12 Goal Differential. This was a great season for our U10 teams as they played their last season of 6v6! The 96 MYSA Lunachicks G won their TCL division for the 2nd Spring in a row with a 7-1-0 record, allowing less than one goal per game on average and finishing with a +22 Goal Differential. All three of these teams will be moving up to 2nd Division Classic this Fall – Good luck!

Five teams participated in the North Carolina Classic League against teams from across North Carolina. The 94 MYSA Storm, playing in the U16 1st Division, finished in 2nd Place with a 6-2-1 record and a +13 Goal Differential. They were one win away from earning promotion to the Premier Division, consisting of the top 10 Classic teams in NC. This was a huge accomplishment! The 92 MYSA Inferno finished in 2nd Place in the U18 2nd Division with a 7-2-0 record and a +14 Goal Differential. A number of Inferno players will be playing collegiate soccer at a variety of levels. Congrats!

The MYSA strongly believes in skills development above all else, even if it means sometimes enduring tough losses, which some of our teams, including those above, have done. But over time we believe that development pays off and we’re happy to highlight the successes that focus on development can bring! Congratulations!

MYSA Teams Warm Up At Chilly GUFC Friendlies

League Wizard | February 18, 2011

To help prepare for the upcoming season, nine of the MYSA’s travel teams traveled to Greensboro to participate in the Guilford United/Omega Sports Spring Kickoff Feb 5th and 6th. We were excited to send such a large contingent of our teams to play against teams from GUFC, TCYSA, GYS, GUFC, CUFC, and more. When a significant rain storm rolled through the area Thursday and Friday, it looked like the event would be canceled due to soggy field conditions, but GUFC worked through the day and night to obtain indoor/artificial turf field space and realign the schedules so all teams could play their games.

MYSA To Begin Accepting Credit & Debit Cards!

League Wizard | May 28, 2010

The MYSA is excited to announce that starting this summer, we will be accepting credit and debit cards for payment of travel soccer fees. By popular demand, you can now pay some or all of your travel fees with a credit or debit card at registration. We also hope to be able to process subsequent payments in person or via phone. Once we get the travel side underway, we’ll be investigating the feasibility of accepting cards for payment of Recreation fees in future years – either in person or online when you register. We are also investigating the possibility of electronic check processing to allow for immediate withdraw of fees via check to vastly improve our processing turnaround.
