Dynamo Win Beat the Heat Tournament
On the weekend of April 26-27, the U13 MYSA Dynamo attended the Beat the Heat soccer tournament, organized by the Triad Elite Soccer Club. The Dynamo made the jump to Open competition last fall with mixed results, but have started to come together this spring. They had big goals and big plans for this tournament.
The tournament started quite well on Saturday with a win against a motivated NTSC Strikeforce team, by a score of 4-1. In the afternoon the Dynamo beat a scrappy West Virginia Rapids Soccer Club team, by a score of 2-0. With a record of 2 wins and 0 losses and 7pts, the Dynamo were set for day two and hopeful of winning their group and moving on to the finals against the winner of the other group. Expecting a battle Sunday morning the Dynamo came out ready to play. The Dynamo out worked and out hustled a tough NCUSA White team, winning 4-0. With the win and shut out, the Dynamo had 11points and won their group going away.
The Dynamo were in the final and set to play a Premier level team in the TESC Elite Red squad. The Elite Red were also undefeated, but unlike the Dynamo they were un-scored upon. Additionally, the Elite Red represented the club hosting the event
The final was a classic. The Dynamo jumped out to a quick lead, 1-0 in the second minute. Ten minutes later the Elite Red evened things up, 1-1. Not too long before halftime, the Elite Red staked a one goal lead, 2-1. The Dynamo opened the 2nd half down 1-2, but evened things up in the 4th minute, 2-2. Two thirds of the way through the 2nd half, the Elite Red found a crack in the defense and went up 3-2. In the 24th minute, the Dynamo tied things up again, 3-3. Regulation would end 3-3. The boys were now moving on to two 10 minute overtime periods. The first eight minutes were a defensive battle. However, the Dynamo broke through first with a goal in the 9th minute to go up 4-3. The remaining eleven minutes the Dynamo showed extraordinary resolve and grit by battling for every loose ball and possessing the ball for the majority of the 2nd overtime. The Dynamo hung on to win 4-3.
The coaches hope that this extraordinary victory will be a springboard to great things for this group. The Dynamo are currently 4th in the Open Piedmont group and have three regular season games remaining. Additionally, the Dynamo will travel to Greensboro for the McDonald’s Wrangler at the end of May. Look for more news on this great group of boys. Their coaches, Matt Brewster and Jeff Michalski could not be more proud.
