MYSA Dynamo Claim Finalist Spot at RBC Fall Classictagbo | September 6, 2013
On the weekend of August 24-25, the U13 Mebane Youth Soccer Association (MYSA) Dynamo attended the RBC Classic, a tournament organized by Triangle United Soccer Association (TUSA). This group of boys has done quite well in past years. The Dynamo won this tournament in 2010. A hurricane spoiled a repeat in 2011, but the MYSA Comets with a few Dynamo players won it all last year. This year, the new Dynamo, went with a plan to do the same. The new Dynamo is a team made up of the top players from the Dynamo, top players from the Comets and top players who joined MYSA from a nearby club.
The tournament started quite well on Saturday with a shutout win against the TUSA Silver, 4-0. In the afternoon the Dynamo beat a scrappy CASL Arsenal club, 5-1. With a record of 2 wins and 0 losses and 6 points, the Dynamo were in the semi-finals and the #1 seed from their bracket and would play the #2 seed BSC Cardinal from the other side of the bracket. Expecting a battle the Dynamo came out ready to play.
The Dynamo dominated the first half but the Cardinal made adjustments and played true to form in the second half. However the Dynamo hung on for a 7-1 win, earning a spot in the finals against a resilient TUSA Silver team. The TUSA Silver was the #2 seed from the Dynamo bracket, besting the #1 seed from the other side of the bracket to make the final.
After losing 4-0 to the Dynamo in the opening round, TUSA Silver obviously made some adjustments. In a defensive struggle, the final was a battle with Silver going up 1-0 just before the half. The Dynamo evened things up with a goal part way through the second half. Both teams attacked and threw everything at each other with both defenses countering every attack. Ending regulation 1-1, the boys went to overtime and golden goal, sudden death. OT looked like it would go as the rest of the game had gone, but TUSA Silver found a slight crack and exploited it for a goal and a sudden 2-1 win.
Though disappointed the in the loss, the Dynamo is very optimistic about their future. Though they had practiced a little, this was the boys first true game experience with each other. They did quite well and the sky’s the limit for this group as they start competition in the Open Piedmont division of NCYSA Classic soccer.
The Dynamo is made up of Alex Burke, Alex Martinez, Alex Kreider, Cameron Michalski, Jacob Hyle, Jay Castillo, Jayden Velez, Jordi Trejo, Jose Lesso, Julio Garcia-Lopez, Kevin Rios, Luke Hawks, Macon Lawrence, Macoy Wood, Oz Lopez, and Sebastian Huerta.
