The British are coming!! The British are coming!!
Challenger British Soccer Camp is almost upon us!! Not this week but next! July 19 – 23!
One of the highlights of the week is the Local coaches vs. British coaches game. This years game will be held at the Baseball Fields at 7pm on Thursday, July 22nd.
Coaches who wish to play – please be there by 6:30! You WILL need to warm up. The more of us that are in attendance the better! We will need to get organized. Substitutions will be liberal I’m sure because, as it turns out, fresh legs are our only real weapon against the superior skill and wretched tirelessness of the British Coaches. Note: we do have two ringers this year so at the very least the goal differential should be lower and the over-under should be a little higher this year. Check the Vegas books.
Parents and players, if you are attending camp or not, come on out for some entertainment. Plus, watch your child’s coach and see how he/she performs on the field, under pressure. Imagine during the upcoming season, as your child’s coach screams “encouragement” at your child, being able to come back with “You mean like you did in the game against the British Coaches, Chip?”
Playing or spectating we hope to see you there.
Colin Mellor – Summer Camp Director
Good evening Coaches and Parents!
I wanted to send out a reminder about our Coaches Clinic we are having July 20th! This is a free clinic that is being put on by the British Challenger Camp, the group that puts on the local soccer camp we support each year in Mebane. It will be from 6-8pm. There will be a session for U10 and under coaches and one for U11 and older coaches. This course will actually carry a certification for one year, that will have a membership, along with literature. Again, this is a free Clinic that will be very interactive and be a huge leg up in helping you plan your soccer practices and soccer season this year. I am sending this to the coaches and parents, in case there are any parents who are looking to help volunteer and coach this season. We hope to have many of you join the MYSA Coaching ranks!!
Please see this handout for complete details: Challenger Soccer/NSCAA Coaching Clinic
If you will please reply to [email protected] if you are planning to attend, we would appreciate it. We would like to get a head count so we can plan the evening.
Please feel free to email or call with any questions!
Thanks and we hope to see you on July 20th!!
Dave Riley
Director of Coaching
MYSA
Parents/Coaches,
Our league serves over 1,100 children a year at all levels of soccer. A common misconception is that the people who help run the league are paid (we’re not – only the referees and travel team trainers are) or that we’re a City of Mebane department (we’re not – we’re an independent non-profit corporation) So we rely on volunteers to not only coach our teams, but also help run the league. A lot of work goes into ensuring 1,100+ children can just show up and practice and/or play matches.
Parents and Coaches,
The Fall soccer season is always the ‘season of change’ in youth soccer. With the soccer ‘year’ running August 1st to July 31st, this is the season the league will often work to improve our programs and make changes based on the past year or years.
I wanted to share a few of these with you to ensure everyone understands what the league is trying to accomplish and the steps we’re taking to constantly improve our programs.
Please take the time to read this entire email as it highlights numerous things the league is doing to ensure our programs are still the best they can be. We have held extensive discussions this summer over numerous issues and are doing our best to enact changes we believe are in the best long term interests of the players – at all levels.
If you plan to coach/assist/manage a team this fall, help us get a head start on Risk Management!
Go to https://www.youthleaguesusa.com/ncysa/2010/RiskManagement.html
and update your RM profile. Be sure to select at least ONE age level/position.
Once you’ve updated your profile, let our RM coordinator know at: [email protected] so she can push you through for a background check. Be sure to include your full name as it appears in your profile to make her job easier.
Every year we have coaches who cannot access their team info when rosters come out because they never did RM. Background checks can take up to a week – so the earlier the better.
Coaches (and parents thinking of coaching),
During the summer, the NCYSA holds a number of coaching classes, including some right here in Mebane. The MYSA requires coaches to be certified within one year of starting to coach.
A complete schedule of classes can be found here: https://www.youthleaguesusa.com/ncysa/2008/school/Directory.html
We will be hosting a few classes here in Mebane, so PLEASE try to take the class here if you can – if they don’t have enough coaches for a class, they often get canceled:
Do NOT send in a payment if you register for a Mebane class – we will send in one check for all the MYSA coaches. Once you register, send a copy of your registration to our Director of Coaching ([email protected]) so he can keep track.
Remember – the MYSA will reimburse the full cost of most coaching classes taken elsewhere. Pay at registration and submit a copy of your license/certificate and registration form to the MYSA treasurer ([email protected]) to get reimbursed.
Just a reminder that the deadline for registering for the Fall 2010 Recreation soccer season is July 4th! Registrations received after July 4th will be subject to a $10 late fee.
You can register online at: http://mebanesoccer.us/parent-login/
If your browser has trouble and you don’t get a login screen, try upgrading to the latest version or use this URL: http://soccersys.mebanesoccer.us/parents/
As you can see, we’ve finally gotten our mailing lists back online. We apologize for the lack of communication late last year. We’ll be sending a number of announcements in the coming week to get caught up – so bear with us.
It’s not too late to register for the MYSA British Soccer Camp! Reserve your child’s spot in one of the largest Challenger British Soccer Camps in the southeast! Each day is filled with fun activities, games, and skills development! We have sessions for children as young as 3!
Complete details can be found at http://mebanesoccer.us/programs/summer-camp/
New this year! We’ve added an ‘Advanced Skills Camp’ designed for higher level players like those who participate on travel teams. You can select the Half Day Advanced Camp or the Full Camp Combination (Half Day of Advanced Camp and the rest with the other Full Day campers playing World Cup)
We are also holding an evening ‘half day’ session if you can’t attend the daytime sessions!
We hope your child can join us for another fun week in the sun!
